The African Union’s Agenda 2063 acknowledges that Africa will be a continent where the critical role of women in Africa ‘s transformation is recognised and proactively harnessed. The Covid-19 Pandemic has brought the world into a standstill and the much-needed women’s progress has been disrupted in an unprecedented way. As the world continue to struggle with the pandemic, there is an urgent need to increase the representation of women in decision making positions to pave the way for the deployment of a long-lasting developmental transformation.
Furthermore, the recent African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) is a step forward to strengthening and accelerating the African integration and get African countries to combine forces to promote regional integration and intra-continental economic cooperation.
The Pan African Women Economic Summit is designed to create awareness and showcase the role that women can and are playing in planning and design of socio-economic development in Africa. In addition, women would be given a platform to showcase various business and investment opportunities.
